5 most frequently asked questions:
What is MyDealBook and how can it help me?
MyDealBook is a social network. It is a place where real estate professionals, investors, developers and service providers such as architects, contractors, appraisers and attorneys can maximize their professional opportunities.
MyDealBook enables you to:
- Advertise your skills and services to over 350,000 members
- Build your cross-industry professional network
- Discover events in your area relevant to your profession
- Join or form professional groups and discussion forums
- Search job listings, property listings, and service listings
- Upload and privately share deals, projects, and related documents
How much does MyDealBook cost?
There is no cost to join MyDealBook. From time-to-time we will introduce advertising and subscription services that enhance the value of MyDealBook to you. These services may be free to beta users for a period before eventually requiring payment to use. However, the general use of MyDealBook and your basic account will always remain free.
How can I advertise my services or company on MyDealBook?
MyDealBook is an ideal self-marketing platform for real estate professionals to reach others across the industry: developers wanting to showcase their portfolios, appraisers seeking lenders, investors seeking investment opportunities, attorneys seeking client referrals, and so on. Creating a MyDealBook profile automatically makes your profile searchable on the most popular search engines, thus increasing your visibility on the Internet in general. Further your profile is searchable by users of MyDealBook by criteria such as profession and location.
In addition, you can increase your visibility by creating a Group, hosting an Event, or posting information about the Deals you're working on or have completed. The more information and people associated with yourself or your company, the more credibility you will have on MyDealBook.
How do I contact people I don't know yet?
Keeping MyDealBook free of spam and low-value unsolicited messages is very important. Therefore, we limit the number of messages any one member can send per day to people that are not yet confirmed contacts.
Very important:
If recipients report that your messages are low-value spam, your messaging privileges may be suspended or permanently revoked. The same is true, if you send out many messages and no one responds. In the interest of maintaining a spam-free environment, we may put additional limits on messages you can send until you add a minimum number of Contacts.
Can I remove a person from my Contacts?
Yes, first click on Contacts, then click on the member’s profile whom you would like to remove. On the professional summary you can remove contact.

Quick Start Guide
1. Complete your Profile – on the left, click on My Profile and then, at top, Edit My Profile
Filling out your profile improves your rank in search results, and provides other users with detail information they need to know in order to do business with you.
2. Add Contacts – on the left, click on Invitations
Add your business associates, clients, and service providers to your network. Adding contacts will increase your visibility into deal flow and marketplace activity. The more contacts the better. You can always remove a contact later. You can also Grow your Network by entering email addresses on the right hand side.
3. Add your Deals – on the top, click on DealBook
Add all deals, projects, and transactions that you've been involved in. If you've been involved in more than three deals, pick the three most recent or most important deals. You can always enter more later, and the more you enter the better. Be sure to invite other deal members to join your Deal. Deals with multiple members get more credibility.
4. Join your Groups – on the top, click on Groups
Groups include offices, teams, investment clubs, professional associations, and many others. Search existing groups to see if any of the groups you're involved in are already created. Click Join Group to join an existing Group. If you don't see a group, you can create it yourself, or invite the group leader to do so by inviting them to join MyDealBook.
5. Sign up for Events – on the top, click on Events
Events include networking mixers, conferences, training, speed networking, industry meals and many others. Search upcoming events based on location or profession and RSVP directly through MyDealBook.com.

What do I get with my free account?
With a basic profile on MyDealBook, you can:
- Advertise your skills and services to over 350,000 members
- Build your cross-industry professional network
- Discover events in your area relevant to your profession
- Join or form professional groups and discussion forums
- Search job listings, property listings, and service listings
- Upload and privately share deals, projects, and related documents
- Specifically, you can form or join Groups, host or attend Events
What other types of accounts are available on MyDealBook?
Currently, only free accounts are available. In the near future, we will be launching premium subscription and advertising services designed to help you improve your business.
Why should I add all of my email addresses to my account?
If a colleague or friend sends you an invitation at an email address that is not listed in your account, you will inadvertently create a new account by accepting that invitation. That new account will not have all of the information in your original account. By adding all of your email addresses to your account, you avoid setting up additional accounts, which dilutes your effectiveness on the site.
If you create a second account, you suggest you transfer all of your information to one account and close the second account.
How do I manage my email addresses on MyDealBook?
You can add additional email address by following these steps:
Go to My Account and add new email address.
How do I close my account and get removed from MyDealBook?
To close an account, please email
customer_service@mydealbook.com.
Home Page
The home page is where you get a summary of everything that is happening within MyDealBook. Here you can get a look at what your contacts are doing, see new deals, get updates on group activities, learn about events, and get quick access to your invitations and messages.
If you see an area that interests you and you want to see more, click View All.
In addition, you can customize your home page. For example, if you are interested in seeing Events in your area, click on Local in the header of the Events box.
My Profile
Your profile is where you put your best foot forward about yourself. It is your online brochure that tells people who do not know you well yet, what you're about in terms of skills, experience, and resources. Your profile comes with a “public profile”, which is a web address that you can hand out to anyone, and even put on your business card (We do!) or on the signature of your emails.
See an example profile:
mydealbook.com/markschacknies
Be sure to fill out as much as you can, and be certain to upload a photo. Photos help professional acquaintances confirm that they know you before contacting you. They also add an important human touch to your profile. Lastly, profiles with photos get more visibility in search results and therefore more views.
Elements of the Profile:
- Professional Summary – here is where you tell people your location, profession, job title, and company name. We also display the number of people connected to you.
- Snapshot – this is a free form text box that allows you free range to express your skills, experience, and resources in your own words.
- Contact Info – here is where you put people in touch with you outside of MyDealBook. Important: Only people who are connected to you can view this information. If you are concerned about your privacy, simply leave this section blank or enter only the information you feel comfortable having your contacts know about you.
- Your Public Profile – here you can choose your own web address that allows you to use MyDealBook as your public facing professional website. You may retain this web address permanently, if you wish, even if you change your company, location, or profession.
- Employment History – here is where you list the jobs you've held in the past either as an employee, independent contractor or business owner. Important: do not list your deals here, you can do so in the DealBook section.
- Education – here is where you list the schools you've attended. If you attended a school but did not graduate with a degree, simply leave the Degrees field blank. Important: do not list your licenses or association memberships here; you can do so in the Additional Information section. If you do not see your school listed, select Other and write in your school name.
- My DealBook – here is where you list your deals. This section operates independently from your Profile, so be sure to save all of your other changes before adding or editing your deals.
- Additional Information – here is where you list your associations, designations, licenses, and honors or awards. If you do not see your designation or association listed, please contact us at customer_service@mydealbook.com.
Your Contacts is where you manage your connections to the people in your network. Here you can invite new contacts or remove existing ones. In addition, you initiate messages to one or more people in your network by selecting contacts and click Compose Message.
You can have as many contacts as you wish. The more contacts who are connected to you, the more credibility your profile will have within MyDealBook. To add a new contact, you need to send that person an invitation. You can only invite three people at a time for whom you do not have an email address. Invitation allowances renew after seven days or whenever an invitation is accepted, whichever comes first.
Messaging
Your Inbox is where your incoming and outgoing messages are managed and stored. Here you can view, delete, or archive a message. Archiving removes the message from your inbox and places it in the Archived folder for future reference. Deleting a message removes it from your account permanently.
In addition, you can compose a new message by clicking Compose on the left. You can send an unlimited number of messages to people in your network, but only three messages at a time to MyDealBook members who are not yet in your network. Your allowance of out-of-network messages renews every seven days or whenever the recipient replies, whichever comes first.
DealBook
DealBook is where you list your current and past professional activities. If you are a developer, you may call this a deal; if you are a broker, it is transaction; if you are an architect, it is a project. Whatever you call it, MyDealBook members want to know what you've done and what you are doing now. Letting other members know about your professional accomplishments raises your visibility and credibility within the MyDealBook network. Beyond just adding to your resume, your DealBook activities can lead to finding a client, funding, a buyer, or an investment opportunity.
-
Admin Name & Email: If you’d like to put a different contact than your own.
- Public URL: You can give your DealBook activity a public URL, which is a web address that you can distribute to others to learn more about your project. This will be published to search engines. You can also send out this link to other websites or emails.
- Website: If you already have a public website where this deal is shown, include it here. Use a link that goes directly to the project not just a general website. MyDealBook is a free place to advertise your site.
Be sure to add an image and a thorough description of the project.
People
People is where you search or browse the MyDealBook directory for potential business partners, clients, or service providers. You can search for a specific person by entering all or part of their name in the Search box.
You can also browse by a combination of location and profession. If you are searching for professionals outside your area, you will need to change the location first, as by default the search area is the area you chose in your profile.
Further, you will see a list of people you may know. If you recognize anyone, go ahead and click on them and invite them to join your network of contacts.
Events
Events is where you can learn about events such as networking mixers, conferences, training, speed networking, industry dinners, panel discussions, sporting event socials, and more. Simply search based on your profession for national events, or your location for local events that are relevant to your profession. You can also see what events people in your network are planning to attend, so that you can plan accordingly.
If you are hosting an event, MyDealBook is ideal for getting the word out. Members that match the location and profession selections you specify in your event will learn about your event on their home page and events page.
MyDealBook is committed to cross-industry networking events as a central pillar to success in real estate. Not only does increasing the amount of networking improve the size of your network and visibility, frequent networking increases the overall velocity of deal activity in the industry thus expanding the industry as a whole.
Groups
Groups is where you can find and join groups that interest you professionally. Examples of groups on MyDealBook include alumni affiliation groups, investment clubs, company teams, local chapters of professional associations, and many more.
MyDealBook also allows you to form new groups. Members that match the location and profession selections you specify in your Group will learn about your event on their home page and groups page.
Quick Search
MyDealBook provides a quick search tool available at the top center of almost every page. Quick search allows you to search for keywords in each of the four marketplaces of MyDealBook: DealBook, People, Events, and Groups.
My Account / Preferences
The My Account page is where you interact with MyDealBook to change your account settings, such as adding additional email addresses and changing your password.
